Natural Ways to Combat Testosterone Loss

Natural Ways to Combat Testosterone Loss

Andropause, caused by a decrease in bioavailable testosterone and rising estrogen, is a potentially troublesome time in a man's life. In contrast to mainstream medicine's apparent indifference to the debilitating effects of the aging process, those of us in the anti-aging field know there are numerous ways in which men can combat many of the deleterious aspects of an imbalance in their hormones, especially testosterone and estrogen. While multiple studies have proven that testosterone supplementation can ease or even reverse many symptoms of andropause, some men still may be leery of using testosterone until it is given mainstream medicine's "stamp of approval." For those men and others who wish to optimize their testosterone levels as they age, below are some specific recommendations to help maintain optimal testosterone levels, combat the debilitating effects of andropause, and live life to the fullest whether you are 40 or 90 years of age.

1. Physical exercise increases testosterone levels.

Multiple studies have shown that regular, high-intensity exercise keeps a man's testosterone at optimal levels. A 1999 study examined how the effects of heavy resistance training in both young (23 to 35 years old) and older (58 to 65 years old) men affected their testosterone levels.20 Both groups saw a statistically significant increase in testosterone levels after exercise. A more recent study published in 2001 also showed that strength training in middle-aged (44 to 48 years old) men increased levels of free testosterone.21

2. Protein combats SHBG, helps maintain optimal testosterone levels.

While adequate protein consumption is vital to maintaining muscle mass in both men and women, it is also important in maintaining testosterone levels. A study published in 2000 examined the relationship between diet and SHBG, and found that "diets low in protein in elderly men [40-70 years old] may lead to elevated SHBG levels and decreased testosterone availability. The decrease in bioavailable testosterone can then result in declines in sexual function and muscle and red cell mass, and contribute to the loss of bone density."22

3. Soy and fish oil keep estrogen and SHBG in check.

Elderly men often see an increase in unhealthy levels of SHBG and estrogen via activity of the aromatase enzyme, which can lead to a net decrease in testosterone levels. Two recent Japanese studies have shown some natural ways in which men can help tilt the ratio back in favor of testosterone. One study of 97 middle-aged to elderly men found that men with high levels of soy intake had lower levels of estradiol (a form of estrogen) compared to men with lower levels of soy intake.23 The researchers postulated that this beneficial inverse relationship could be due to inhibition of the aromatase enzyme by soy and soy-based food products. Another Japanese study examined how the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA (found in high concentrations in fish) affected SHBG levels in men 43 to 88 years of age.24 After controlling for other variables, the researchers concluded that both EPA and DHA decreased levels of SHBG in middle-aged and elderly men.

4. Indole-3-carbinol protects against high estrogen levels, prostate cancer.

An adequate intake of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), through vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cabbage, or via supplements, may prove to be very helpful for aging men in both keeping estrogen levels in check and decreasing their risk of prostate cancer. Studies have demonstrated that I3C increases the ratio of 2-hydroxyestrone to 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone, thereby causing a decrease in the "bad" estrogen and an increase in the "good" estrogen. For men, this very well might mean a decrease in prostate cancer. In a recent study that examined the association of prostate cancer risk with estrogen metabolism, the authors noted "results of this case-control study suggest that the estrogen metabolic pathway favoring 2-hydroxylation over 16-alpha-hydroxylation may reduce risk of clinically evident prostate cancer."25

5. Zinc is essential for optimal testosterone production.

One supplement that should be considered absolutely essential for maintaining a man's testosterone levels is zinc. This busy mineral is involved in almost every aspect of male reproduction, including testosterone metabolism, sperm formation, and sperm motility. Multiple studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of zinc in treating male infertility due to low testosterone levels.26,27 A prime example of the usefulness of zinc was illustrated in a study of 37 infertile men with decreased testosterone levels and associated low sperm counts.28 The men were given 60 mg of zinc daily for 45-50 days. In 22 patients, testosterone levels significantly increased and mean sperm count rose from 8 million to 20 million.

6. Chrysin is a natural aromatase inhibitor.

A bioflavonoid called chrysin has shown potential as a natural aromatase inhibitor. Bodybuilders have used chrysin as a testosterone-boosting supplement because by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, less testosterone is converted into estrogen. The problem with chrysin is that because of its poor absorption into the bloodstream, it has not produced the testosterone-enhancing effects users expect. Pilot studies have found that when chrysin is combined with piperine, reductions in serum estrogen (estradiol) and increases in total and free testosterone result in 30 days. In a study published in the Journal of Steroid Biochemical Molecular Biology (1993), chrysin and 10 other flavonoids were compared to an aromatase-inhibiting drug (aminoglutethimide).29 Chrysin was shown to be the most potent aromatase inhibitor, and was similar in potency and effectiveness to the aromatase-inhibiting drug. Chrysin is not a patentable drug, so do not expect to see a lot of human research documenting its effects. Many FDA-approved drugs (such as Arimidex®) inhibit aromatase, and there is not much financial incentive for finding natural ways to replace these drugs. While prescription aromatase-inhibiting drugs are relatively free of side effects, aging men who are seeking to gain control over their sex hormone levels sometimes prefer natural sources instead of trying to convince a physician to prescribe a drug (such as Arimidex®) that is not approved by the FDA as an anti-aging therapy. (Arimidex® is prescribed to estrogen-dependant breast cancer patients to prevent testosterone and other hormones in the body from converting, i.e., aromatasing, into estrogen.)

7. Nettle root liberates "bound" testosterone.

Testosterone that becomes bound to serum globulin is not available to cell receptor sites and fails to induce a libido effect. When testosterone binds to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), it loses its biological activity and becomes bound testosterone, as opposed to the desirable free testosterone. As men age past 45, SHBG's binding capacity increases dramatically—by an average of 40%—and coincides with age-associated loss of libido and other andropause symptoms. Some studies show that the decline in sexual interest with advancing age is not always due to the amount of testosterone produced, but rather to the increased binding of testosterone to globulin by SHBG. This explains why some older men who are on testosterone replacement therapy do not report a long-term aphrodisiac effect. That is, the artificially administered testosterone becomes bound by SHBG and is not bioavailable to cellular receptor sites where it would normally produce a libido-enhancing effect. European researchers have identified constituents of nettle root that bind to SHBG in place of testosterone, thus reducing SHBG's binding of free testosterone.30-34 As the authors of one study stated, these constituents of nettle root "may influence the blood level of free, i.e., active, steroid hormones by displacing them from the SHBG binding site."

8. Human Studies Using Combination Nutrients

To ascertain the safety and efficacy of nutrients that are purported to modulate male hormone levels, the Life Extension Foundation sponsored clinical studies to assess the effects of specific supplements on blood levels of testosterone, estrogen, SHBG, etc.35 Based on the results of these studies, a formula called Super MiraForte was developed that combines chrysin, nettle root, muira puama, piperine, and other nutrients that showed the most potent effects in boosting free testosterone and suppressing estrogen in aging men. For those who would prefer to avoid testosterone-boosting and estrogen-suppressing drugs, four capsules a day of Super MiraForte may be considered. Before embarking on a hormone rejuvenation program, please refer to the Male Hormone Modulation protocol.

What You Need to Know: Optimizing Testosterone Levels in Aging Men

  • Testosterone, the chief male hormone, is essential for libido and erectile function, and plays a crucial role in mood, energy, bone health, and body composition.
  • Testosterone levels decline with age, usually beginning in a man’s mid-30s. Diminishing testosterone levels have been linked with disorders such as depression, fatigue, obesity and cognitive decline.
  • Low testosterone in men is strongly associated with metabolic syndrome, and may be a risk factor for type 2 diabetes and cardiovasculardisease.
  • Restoring testosterone to youthful levels offers men a wealth of health benefits, including benefits for heart health, body composition, mood, and memory.
  • Bioidentical testosterone has not been found to have adverse effects on the healthy prostate gland—in fact, it may help improve prostate symptoms in men with low-normal testosterone levels. Testosterone therapy is contraindicated in men with prostate cancer.
  • Regular blood testing can help you and your physician decide if testosterone therapy is right for you. Optimizing testosterone levels requires a multi-pronged approach that includes optimal diet, proper nutrition, nutritional supplements, exercise, and bioidentical testosterone.
·        There are other conditions that can lower testosterone, such as diabetes, high blood pressure - even being overweight and ageing. But the role ofprostate drugs is often overlooked.
·        In men, testosterone plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as the testis and prostate as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased musclebone mass, and the growth of body hair.[3] In addition, testosterone is essential for health and well-being[4] as well as the prevention of osteoporosi

how to remove gallbalder stone naturally

http://www.timelesshealth.net/mm/gall_stones/clark_protocal_for_gall_stones.html

1. For 5 days prior to the "Flush" consume as much apple juice or cider as the appetite permits, in addition to regular meals. Nutritional supplements should also be taken during this time. For the last two days ( day 4 and 5 ) try to take 8 ounces of apple juice every two hours until 1/2 gallon each day has been taken.

2. On the sixth day... Eat a no-fat breakfast and lunch such as cooked cereal with fruit, fruit juice, bread, and preserves or honey ( no butter or milk ), baked potato or other vegetables with sea salt only. This allows the bile to build up and develop pressure in the liver. Higher pressure pushes out more stones.

Note: Take no medicines, vitamins, or pills that you can do without; they could prevent success.

2:00 PM Get your Epsom salts ready. Mix 4 tbsp. in 3 cups water and pour this into a jar. Do not eat or drink after 2 o'clock. If you break this rule you could feel quite ill later.

[You can substitute 3 cups water with 3 cups freshly pressed grapefruit juice, or freshly pressed apple juice.] This makes four servings, 3/4 cup each. Set the jar in the refrigerator to get cold (this is for convenience and taste only).

6:00 PM Drink one serving (3/4 cup of the cold Epsom salts. If you did not prepare this ahead of time, do it right now. You may also add 1/8 tbsp. vitamin C powdered to improve the taste. You may also drink a few mouthfuls of water afterwards or rinse your mouth. Get the olive oil and grapefruit out of the refrigerator to warm up.

8:00 PM Repeat by drinking another 3/4 cup of Epsom salts. You haven't eaten since two o'clock, but you won't feel hungry. Get your bedtime chores done. The timing is critical for success; don't be more than 10 minutes early or late.

9:45 PM Pour 1/2 cup (measured) olive oil into a pint jar. Squeeze the grapefruit by hand into the measuring cup. Remove pulp with fork. You should have at least 1/2 cup, but up to 3/4 cup is best. Add this to the olive oil. Close the jar tightly with the lid and shake hard until watery (only fresh grapefruit does this).

[If using lemon juice, do not blend juice with oil. Drink little oil, little juice, from 2 different cups. If you mix olive oil with lemon juice, it may slightly congeal, and get a slimy consistency that is not easy to swallow. It never happens with grapefruit juice.]

10:00 PM Drink the potion you have mixed. Drinking through a large plastic straw helps it go down easier. Take it to your bedside if you want, but drink it standing up. Get it down within 5 minutes (fifteen minutes for very elderly or weak persons).

Lie down immediately!!! You might fail to get stones out if you don't. The sooner you lie down the more stones you will get out. Be ready for bed ahead of time. Don't clean up the kitchen. As soon as the drink is down walk to your bed and lie on the right side with the right knee drawn up toward the chin for at least 20 minutes (you can briefly stretch your right leg, if necessary) or lie down flat on your back with your head up high on the pillow for 20 minutes before going to sleep. This encourages the oil to drain from the stomach, helping contents of the gall bladder and/or liver to move into the small intestine. Try to think about what is happening in the liver. Try to keep perfectly still for at least 20 minutes. You may feel a train of stones traveling along the bile ducts like marbles. There is no pain because the bile duct valves are open (thank you Epsom salts!). Go to sleep. You may fail to get stones out if you don't.

Education is expensive, what must you do for your children?

MY son who studies in a local Chinese school is “losing” his friends.
By next January, 10 of his friends will be in international schools.
Why the exodus?
Parents seem to consider western-styled education to be more nurturing environment for learning, which is an attractive pull.
Push factors include deteriorating standard of English, lack of holistic learning setting and closed-minded education policy.
Surprisingly, the exodus is happening despite the high cost of international schooling.
Parents who send their children to government schools, pay between RM200 and RM500 half-yearly and can even save on buying textbooks from “skim pinjaman buku” (book loan scheme).
In contrast, parents whose children attend international schools fork out RM12,000 to RM98,000 a year in fees, books, uniforms, building fund and various charges.
So, how do parents fund such expensive education? Today’s parents must start saving the moment little bub joins the family, or say sayonara to international schools.
Best to start with at least 10% of one’s income if there is time to accumulate.
Otherwise, the funds need to grow faster or more needs to be saved.
What are your options?
* Build equity in property?
Investing in property to pay for kids’ education is a popular option. Is it the best option?
NobelLaureate in Economics, Robert Schiller, said “spending on shelter is consumption, not an investment.”
He listed volatile price for a single house (or in Malaysia, stagnating prices), paying too many fees to the bank, property agents and lawyers, and illiquid nature of property as reasons it is not the best investment.
* Save via insurance plans?
The disciplined manner of paying premiums builds up your fund.
However, should one lapse in this disciplined “savings” for an extended period, the savings plan can become unsustainable.
The returns may also not be sufficient to hedge against the rise in education costs. Moreover, the cost of this type of savings can be high.
* Invest in unittrust funds?
Regular savings into growth type of funds can yield capital appreciation in the medium to long term and allows for flexible and additional investment.
Whilst capital can grow faster, the investment is exposed to market risks. Thus it is vital to work with a financial buddy to achieve this goal.
The ability to “save” continuously, funds’ availability for investment and liquidity are keys to a priceless yet pricey education.

Its good to walk.

Good stuff
Benefits of Walking
cid:1.3505775927@web192204.mail.sg3.yahoo.com
  • The human body is made to walk. Â
  • Walking 30 minutes a day cuts the rate of people becoming diabetic by more than half and it cuts the risk of people over 60 becoming diabetic by almost 70 percent. Â
  • Walking cuts the risk of stroke by more than 25 percent. Â
  • Walking reduces hypertension. The body has over 100,000 miles of blood vessels. Those blood vessels are more supple and healthier when we walk. Â
  • Walking cuts the risk of cancer as well as diabetes and stroke. Â
  • Women who walk have a 20 percent lower likelihood of getting breast cancer and a 31 percent lower risk of getting colon cancer. Â
  • Women with breast cancer who walk regularly can reduce their recurrence rate and their mortality rate by over 50 percent. Â
  • The human body works better when we walk. The body resists diseases better when we walk, and the body heals faster when we walk. Â
  • We don't have to walk a lot. Thirty minutes a day has a huge impact on our health. Â
  • Men who walk thirty minutes a day have a significantly lower level of prostate cancer. Men who walk regularly have a 60 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Â
  • For men with prostate cancer, studies have shown that walkers have a 46 percent lower mortality rate. Â
  • Walking also helps prevent depression, and people who walk regularly are more likely to see improvements in their depression. Â
  • In one study, people who walked and took medication scored twice as well in 30 days as the women who only took the medication. Another study showed that depressed people who walked regularly had a significantly higher level of not being depressed in a year compared to depressed people who did not walk. The body generates endorphins when we walk. Endorphins help us feel good. Â
  • Walking strengthens the heart. Walking strengthens bones.
  • Walking improves the circulatory system. Â
  • Walking generates positive neurochemicals. Healthy eating is important but dieting can trigger negative neurochemicals and can be hard to do. Â
  • Walking generates positive neurochemicals. People look forward to walking and enjoy walking. Â
  • And research shows that fit beats fat for many people. Walking half an hour a day has health benefits that exceed the benefits of losing 20 pounds. Â
  • When we walk every day, our bodies are healthier and stronger. A single 30 minute walk can reduce blood pressure by five points for over 20 hours. Â
  • Walking reduces the risk of blood clots in your legs. Â
  • People who walk regularly have much lower risk of deep vein thrombosis. Â
  • People who walk are less likely to catch colds, and when people get colds, walkers have a 46 percent shorter symptom time from their colds. Â
  • Walking improves the health of our blood, as well. Walking is a good boost of high density cholesterol and people with high levels of HDL are less likely to have heart attacks and stroke. Â
  • Walking significantly diminishes the risk of hip fracture and the need for gallstone surgery is 20 to 31 percent lower for walkers. Â
  • Walking is the right thing to do. The best news is that the 30 minutes doesn't have to be done in one lump of time. Two 15 minute walks achieve the same goals. Three 10 minute walks achieve most of those goals. Â
  • We can walk 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night and achieve our walking goals. Â
  • Walking feels good. It helps the body heal. It keeps the body healthy. It improves our biological health, our physical health, our psychosocial health, and helps with our emotional health. Walking can literally add years entire years to your life.
Its good to walk.
